Often the strain is so much that you may need to avoid each other, particularly if you are still in the same house, ironic as that may seem. If there is a chance of cross words or tension, this will affect the children. This can arise during the handovers of the children. You could be in separate towns, and the children could overhear a telephone conversation, or at least see the effect on the person they are with. If you have to share a house, even temporarily, try to be civil with each other. If living separately, be polite at handovers, because the children will feel any tension. In extreme cases, the handovers may have to happen when you are not within earshot of each other.
